About the Observatory

Lumen Field is a research-led studio and academy for artists, musicians, and technologists studying the emerging vocabulary of intelligent sound systems. We treat the studio as a laboratory and the gallery as an instrument.

From vintage analog synthesis to neural audio generation, our curriculum and residencies are designed for beginners ready to work with their hands, their ears, and their code.

Courses

Sound Synthesis

Learn the foundations of wavetable, FM, and granular synthesis using industry-standard tools and open-source environments like Pure Data and Max/MSP.

Spatial Audio

Design immersive listening environments using ambisonics, binaural modeling, and real-time object-based audio for installations and performance.

Music Technology

Study signal flow, psychoacoustics, and creative coding in Python and JavaScript to build custom instruments and performance systems.

Interactive Sound Design

Build sensor-driven installations and generative scores where the audience becomes a performer through touch, motion, and algorithmic response.
